Sigrid Espelien

Sigrid Espelien har i de siste årene dykket ned i blåleire som materiale og som en inngang til sted og historiefortelling. I blåleire fra byggeplasser i Oslo gjemmer det seg historier om geologi, arkeologi, byutvikling, politikk, science fiction og industri. Leira er også utgangspunkt for utforsking av teknologi.

Sigrid har keramikerutdannelse fra Glas- og Keramikkskolen på Bornholm og en master i keramikk og billedkunst fra Cranbrook Academy of Art i Michigan, USA. Hun er på nåværende tidspunkt doktorgradsstipendiat på Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo i kunstnerisk forskning med prosjektet Jording med (blå)leire.

Sigrid Espelien has over the past years been researching local clay (blåleire) from a material perspective and as an entry way to site and storytelling. The clay from construction sites in Oslo contains stories of geology, archeology, city development, politics, science fiction and industry. The clay is also a starting point for research of technology.

Sigrid has a ceramic art and craft education from the Glass- and Ceramics School on Bornholm in Denmark and a Master in fine art and ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, USA. She is currently a PhD fellow in artistic research at Oslo National Academy of Art with the project Grounding with (blue) clay).
